Where Calgary's Comedy Celebrities Strut Their NEW Stuff
The cream of Calgary's comedy crop perform their newest material. This isn't the stuff you've seen in their club shows or on their TV appearances. It's the brand new material that they are sharing with the world for the first time, and you can be there to witness it.
Our last show of 2013 featured performances of all-new stand-up from Ian Wallace, Jeremy Furlong, Todd Ness, Amy Bugg, Donovan Deschner, Saragh Adams, Jeff Toth and Nigel Lawrence. Thanks to all of the comedians for taking the leap and trying out their newest stuff and, as always, to the crowd for being so supportive. Here’s the video album we created of the show – it’s a great reminder of the night or a look at what you missed:
The regular schedule that we try to keep of “the last Wednesday of the month” doesn’t really work at the end of December because of the holidays so we’ll be back in January of 2014. Until then, have a great holiday season (hopefully full of laughs)!
Our fifth season is continuing nicely with another fun show on Wednesday night and great sets all around! Thanks to Kyle Francis, Ian Wallace, Scoot Laird, Donovan Deschner, Kristina Scaman, Derek Sweet and Ben Cannon for bringing all-new material. Also thanks to Jeff Toth for wrapping up the show nicely with a more polished set in preparation for his small tour on the West Coast.
This season we’ve decided to start creating “video albums” of each show. The one from Wednesday night can be seen here:
Our next show is November 27, 2013 where will bring another night filled with new stand-up comedy and new “I thought that would be stand-up comedy.”
Red Carpet Comedy’s fifth season is off to a great start! We kicked off another year of all-new stand-up from Calgary’s best comedians on September 25, 2013. Thanks to Jeff Toth, Todd Ness, Ben Cannon, Jeff Kubik, Austin Lonneberg, Ian Wallace, Kyle Francis, Scoot Laird and Nigel Lawrence for appearing on the show!
For our first show seasons we captured each show for posterity by way of a photographer, and we loved the photos that they took. For this season, we’re trying something new – making a “video album” of each show. The first of the series is embedded below. Have a look and share it around to showcase what Red Carpet Comedy is all about!
We’ll be back with another all-new night on October 30, 2013. Tickets and more information are available here.
Red Carpet Comedy was featured on the makeCalgary blog. They called the show “a diamond in the rough within the Calgary comedy scene” among other very nice things. Check it out and be sure to join us on October 30 to see what all the fuss is about.
Coming off a very successful Season 4 finish and “Best of” album recording (more details on its release will follow shortly) we are very happy to announce that we’ve confirmed our fifth season! There will be nine shows ready to make you laugh as Calgary’s best stand-ups throw out their tested material and take the challenge to create an all-new set.
Mark your 2013 calendar for September 25, October 30 and November 27 and then mark your 2014 calendar for January 29, February 26, March 26, April 30, May 28 and June 25. All of the shows will showcase a changing array of comedic talent from Calgary and, sometimes, abroad. We’ve already started putting together our line-up for our Season Premiere and more details will be announced closer to the date through our Facebook page.
As with our previous season, we wanted to offer our most devout fans the chance to purchase a Season’s Pass for our 2013-2014 calendar. For $60 you can get access to all nine shows – that’s a $30 savings! Tickets to our individual shows can always be purchased online and season’s passes can be purchased with the link below…
Last night’s Season 4 finale of Red Carpet Comedy was the perfect way to send off the season. It showed exactly what the show is all about: comedians taking big risks by abandoning their tried and true material combined with an audience that’s ready to help them figure out what works and what doesn’t. Every show this year has helped to improve the work that our local performers are doing, all the while giving the crowds a glimpse behind the curtain of stand-up.
Thanks go out to our performers from throughout the year and especially to those that helped up wrap up last night, each of whom would easily be considered a “regular:” Ian Wallace, Brent Constantine, Jeff Kubik, Ben Cannon, Jeff Toth, Chris Griffin, Donovan Deschner and Trent McClellan.
We’d also like to apologize to and thank Victor McWhan. Vic was supposed to have the “up and comer spot” at the show but we had to Skype him in and the connection speeds didn’t cooperate. Sorry, Vic. We’ll figure out a way to get you on the show yet!
Our audiences are the ones that truly make our show a show that comedians are eager to perform on. The fact that there are so many people that want to see some of the process of creating stand-up and share the ups and downs helps to inspire the comedians. A sincere thank you to every single one of our audience members for making Red Carpet Comedy one of the most fun evenings in stand-up in Calgary.
Between now and the launch of our fifth season in September we’re planning a special “Best of Season 4″ taping (like we did with Season 3 last year). More details are still being confirmed – and will be announced shortly – but we can let you know right away that it will not only act as an album recording, but also a flood-related fund raiser.
Any victims of the Calgary flooding that need a break from cleanup are invited, free of charge, to attend our Wednesday evening show (July 3). We know that sometimes a distraction is helpful and our talented group of stand-ups would happily provide it while testing out their new material. To arrange for your free tickets email firstname.lastname@example.org. General admission tickets are still available as well (and will be at the door).
Anyone in Calgary over the past few days (or watching news around the world) knows that our city has been turned upside down by what is being called the worst natural disaster in the city’s history. Our venue, Lolita’s Lounge, was relatively unscathed and should be open again within the day (which we are very grateful for). However, in speaking with our performers, it’s clear that their focus hasn’t been on creating new material these past few days. So we’ve decided to delay tomorrow night’s show until July 3. This should give everyone time to start to get back to more normal lives, write some funny stuff and then blow off some steam in a week. Tickets purchased for our June 26 show will be valid for July 3 or refunds are available if you can’t make the rescheduled performance.
If you’re still itching to get out of the house and laugh off some stress this weekend, Red Carpet Comedy regular, Chris Griffin, is producing four shows at the Engineered Air Theatre (which was also surprisingly spared during the flooding). He’s also decided to donate the proceeds to flood relief. Tickets are available through www.ChrisGriffinComedian.com. The four shows will feature a couple of other Red Carpet Comedians including Donovan Deschner and Brent Constantine.
After almost four years of Red Carpet Comedy, we love that our audiences love watching the process that stand-ups go through to create their hilarious material. One of our audience “regulars” posted a great message on our Facebook page inspired by our May show. We wanted to make sure it was seen here as well:
“One of the unimagined benefits of having attended every single Red Carpet Comedy (okay, except one, dammit) is the joy of seeing comics who were nervous and green and a wee bit shaky in the first year, come out now and totally kill it. So much fun! Thanks for another great night!”
There’s still one more chance to catch our Red Carpet Comedians before the summer hiatus. Come and see what all the fuss is about on June 26.
After last week’s Red Carpet Comedy show the audience and performers were buzzing with how much fun it was – and it really, really was! Great sets all around, lots of new material created and a show that will be hard to top for our season finale on June 26, 2013.
Thanks to the performers for delighting the crowd that night! Big kudos to you all: Ian Wallace, Jeff Toth, Donovan Deschner, Mary Schatschneider, Todd Ness, Jeff Kubik, Saragh Adams, Kyle Francis and Brent Constantine.
We’ve got just one show left this season and then it’s a quick summer hiatus before our fifth one starts up again (we might even do another “best of” show this summer – we’ll keep you posted). See you on June 26!
